Recently it was announced that Facebook has bought WhatsApp for an astronomical amount of 19 billion dollars. Facebook’s share of the stock market reacted negatively to the purchase. Evidently, investors estimate the value of WhatsApp lower.
The question is therefore where the added value of WhatsApp for Facebook lies. Especially given that WhatsApp is free of advertising. The only thing Facebook seems to buy is a whole pile of information, Big Data. Is that information really worth so much? Marc Zuckerberg apparently thinks so and I can only agree with him. At least if you respect the privacy of WhatsApp users less.
